Painting skirts and architrave

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 4.08 PM

Hi, We recently fitted skirting boards and architraves ourselves. Prior to fitting, we painted both using 'Wickes Trade Wood Primer' (product code: 121758) https://www.wickes.co.uk/Wickes-Trade-Wood-Primer---2-5L/p/121758 My question is that do we need to paint a coat of 'Undercoat' before painting 'Gloss' or can we paint 'Gloss' directly on the 'Primer'? Also, which brand of White Gloss (and Undercoat, if necessary) would you recommend? Regards

Where they not primed already? If not, that primer is fine. I would use a Dulux satin, its preference regarding water base or not. I generally use the non water base, as skirtings always get knocked by the hoover, which means a water base is less durable, but again its preference. Fill any holes let dry, sand down the filler first, apply 1st top coat, let it dry 12-24hours, sand and then apply final coat. Make sure you brush off any sanding dust with a clean paint brush and hoover up.

Yes undercoat, unless you want to use satin finish which is self undercoating, my preference is a water base as they don't yellow and perform just as well as lol based now days plus low odour and drying time is much shorter. Satin over gloss all the time for me. Gloss is outdated now in my opinion
