Tiling

Not grouting until end of job

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 4.08 PM

Please help solve a disagreement! Our builder has laid floor tiles throughout our downstairs but they done want to grout them until the very end of the job. Is this normal? They want to wait until the kitchen is fitted as they don’t want them to get dirty damaged after grouting. Is this usual or unreasonable? The floor tiles look great and are big (60x60cm) if that makes a difference.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hey Emma, This is completely normal, grouting should always be done at the end of the project. He is protecting your investment and doesn’t want kitchen fitting / fitters to discolour or stain grout which will then have to be re done. Regards, M.

Seems reasonable to do that, nothing to worry about really, if that’s his way of doing things it should not be to detriment of the final job. It’s not necessarily the way I would do it, normally the floor tiling is one of the last jobs done so not much to get them dirty, all the dirty work should have been done first.
