Fixing Soil Ventilation pipe to terracotta/clay wall tiles

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.54 PM

I am currently looking at installing anew toilet in a bathroom that did not have one meaning a new soil/ventilation pipe on the outside wall(toilet is on a different wall to the main stack). The initial drilling of a hole and getting the soil/vent pipe on that wall is mostly fine however the wall the pipe would go on has the whole upper section tiled in what looks like terracotta/clay tiles on the wall. So looking at the best way to fix the pipe to that as there is already a rainwater pipe fixed on that wall and where the bracket has been placed the tiles have cracked and fallen off. I would need to take a closer look but it looks like behind the tiles are brick so the pip could have a fixing into that. The issue being is there w ay to drill through these tiles without breaking or is an option to take a couple of tiles out so can fix the pipe to the brick wall and then remedy the gap afterwards

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

The customer was right. You need to remove the hanging tiles where you need a fixing. Get a good fixing into brick or block work behind, then replace tiles lowest tiles first. You can get a standoff pipe bracket that will give you more depth.
