How to connect led light strips to existing spotlights with a shared light switch

Anonymous user 17/03/2024 - 2.31 PM

I have an existing light switch which is connected to 2 spot lights. I want to be able to add 2 led strips that connect to the light switch so that when it is switched on, both the led strips and spot lights would on at the same time. What js the best way to do this safely? I had 3 options in mind: 1. Daisy chain the spot lights to the led light strip drivers. Would this be ok 2. Use a junction box to connect the led drivers and spot lights to this which would then have another twin and earth going straight to the loght switch. 3. Using an FCU to connect all the lights in here. Thanks in advance.

Find the last spotlight of the two , this will have 1 t&e cable , which will have a neutral ( blue ) and switched live ( brown ) You could now either daisy chain a new t&e from the lite j box into your led driver or use a wago box to connect both the incoming twin/earth to down light and led driver , then put all the accessories back into ceiling void through down light hole . I am assuming these are recessed down lights ?

If you can find the “End of line” of the switch line, I.e the last spot light of the switch, given that it is a two plated system, you can wire a twin & earth 1.5mm from the last light to the drivers for the LED. The drivers for the LED will essentially be your new end of line. Hope this helps.

Additions and alterations should be done by a skilled person. Please contact a local electrician to do this job. Inspection and testing must be carried out after all additions and alterations. You would not have the skill, knowledge or equipment to do it.

Hello, Try to find the “End of line” of the switch line, I.e the last downlight of the switch, given that it is a two plated system, you can wire a twin & earth 1.5mm from the last downlight to the drivers for the LED. The drivers for the LED will need to be close to the downlight, in case of a faulty driver, they need to be accesible and easy to replace them with new one.
