How can I restore Victorian quarry tiles

Anonymous user 17/03/2024 - 2.30 PM

Dear all, advice is needed on restoring newly discovered Victorian terracotta quarry floor tiles in the dining room. However, tiles look very damaged, probably due to efflorescence build-up in the surface of the tiles, then breaking down, forcing the surface to flake and holes form gripper or tack bars. The tiled floor measures 4.95 metres by 3.43 metres. Can you advise? Cheers.

Best bet go somewhere like topps tiles and get a natural stone cleaner and work in with a stiff brush and wash off with clean water. As for the damage unless you can find replacement not really much can be done.

Only option is to clean best as possible and then seal them with a tile sealer. As long as happy with look of broken tiles the sealer should keep them protected from any further deterioration.
