Bedroom wall flexing/moves when pushed
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.52 PM
Our bedroom wall on side of house joining to terraced house, flexes when you push on it, up to an inch or two. A crack has of course appeared at the centre point due to this movement. Why would this be and how to fix?

Depends on the age of house could be lathes are sagging away from joist s or plaster boards have come away check attic see if there's any weight between joists extra noggins can be fitted and screwed too or may be better replace celing

Best bet would be to strip the plasterboard or lathe and plaster, add in a row of dwangs/noggins or to sheet over it with osb/plywood and then plaster over it to stiffen it up

The best and efficient fix would be to re plasterboard the ceiling this could be caused from weight on top of the joists or previous work wasnt done to a good standard

If it is a wall joining your neighbour it will NOT be lathes and if it is moving 2 inches I think you need to get it fixed ASAP by a professional
