Internal damp spots potentially caused by roof issue?

Anonymous user 14 March 2024 - 2.36 PM

Bathroom has a slow but progressive damp issue that I think may be related to a problem higher up. I've checked internally and there's no leaks anywhere, the room is plenty ventilated and the usual signs of that being the cause aren't there. I'm wondering if there's a chance that a problem on the roof could allow water to be getting in behind the internal walls as the mould spots all seem to be either on the ceiling right up against the external wall or on the wall itself towards the top. Is there any way to check this internally? Given the time of year I understand its purely a gamble on any given day for roof access to be possible due to weather. Just trying to understand the situation a bit more/confirm I'm looking for the right trade to investigate the issues.

Could be that the warm, damp air normally found in a bathroom is condensing on a cold surface, causing damp and mould to form. Check the insulation and ventilation at the eaves level of the roof where the damp is forming.

Sometimes if mastic it can be a problem with the mastic on the shower/bath not sealing try to take the panel out and have a look underneath after running water for a bit. Equally if could be shower screen if it’s a shower that hasn’t been sealed with mastic right at the bottom on the back

I come across this issue many times before especially with lower pitched Roofs. In heavy wind directional rain its possible rain will blow back under the Roofing tiles if the underlay felt has broken down along the perimeter eave water will find its way behind the fascia and soffit board causing staining along the ceiling and outside wall....the answer is new felt along the eave and install felt support trays problem solved
