What do you do if a plumber fixes a leak but damages your hot water system

Anonymous user 14/03/2024 - 2.36 PM

Hi had a plumber fix an urgent leak but that meant using the hot water. The leak was coming from cracked bathroom tiles that needed replacing. They used hot water to put down the new tiles. I discovered once the job was done the hot water was used excessively that my hot water taps have stopped giving hot water and now give out cold water and my immersion heater ( which is new) has stopped working. I message the plumber about this and they admitted to using too much hot water advised me to reset the boost control but this didnt work either. I video called the plumber and explained despite doing this my hot water was still cold and showed them my boost control and immersion heater. They advised the immersion heater fuse is broken. They still havent arrived to fix the damage as promised and Im scared as Ive no hot water only the shower. I did sign a contract to cover me but I dont want this to get nasty, I just want the hot water restored. Any advice on how to proceed?

There is no logical reason why using a tap "fiercely" could damage your immersion heater. As these are two completely different components which have no ability to damage one another. In this scenario only the tap itself could be damaged by using it "fiercely" as you put it. According to your question it sounds like an unlucky coincedence.

Just have faith in the plumber that did the work. And hopefully he will come back and rectify the problem. Any reputable plumber or tradesperson would have no problems returning. But does sound strange about how it’s explained I don’t understand about the hot water bit just get the original guy back
