Advice needed : Home burglar alarm no power

Anonymous user 10/03/2024 - 2.30 PM

Currently we have a Hardwired Scantronics 9454 . - Completely loss of power over the weekend . tamper and service light came on and by today ( Monday ) .. no light at all, no mains power getting to the panel and the backup battery has now died as mains power wasn't restored. - Fused changed but keeps blowing. Is it possible to trace the mains power into the panel and beyond, could it be a fuse gone inside the panel or the transformer gone? Can this be fixed?. - Can this be fixed? ..ie are parts available? Or is it possible to upgrade the main panel to reuse all my sensors ? - Or am I forced to upgrade? if I have to upgrade ( which I would rather not) can you recommend any reliable smart “non subscription/monitored” systems out there , which has functions that is compatible with Mobile phones for arming/disarming and alerts? Many thanks in advance

Hello, (In a nutshell) Yes you can buy parts and fault find but I would recommend a new system as it sounds like there will be a number of issues within your panel. If its blowing the fuse then ide say its time to swop. I would recommend getting an alarm engineer to fit you a new panel, keypad AND new sensors. You will be able to re use the old sensors but they are not expensive to replace. If your looking to fit yourself I've heard good things about Hikvision's AX Pro systems easy to set up and no subscriptions. I can supply these for less than most also. I can advise you further if you like to get in touch

According to your discription of the fault, must likely that the control panel mains transformer and the backup battery has gone. Time for an upgrade.

If there’s no mains power to the panel then your problem is with your electrics.

The scantronic 9454 is now a discontinued product. Depending on your budget you could replace the faulty control panel with a scantronic 9448 panel which is very similar and keep all your existing detection in place. Or you could upgrade your alarm system altogether for a more upto date system. I would recommend a hard wired alarm system over wireless especially if all wiring is already in place.

As previous companies have mentioned, the most likely result is a system upgrade. However, i would have to disagree with the wireless option. Reason being is that the cabling is already in place to replace all for wired, this would also keep costings down. Its just a case of using the right detectors based on the environment etc. to ensure you get it right and do not end up with false alarm after false alarm. Its all in the design.
