Ceiling panels wooden

Anonymous user 06/03/2024 - 2.31 PM

For a 20m2 room, how much would it cost to install pine ceiling boards/panels (tongue and groove?) on the ceiling. As added complexity we have a stippled Artex ceiling that we don’t like. I’m basically trying to work out what is best/cheapest/easiest: a) remove Artex b) skim over the artery somehow or c) cover the ceiling with wooden panelling. It’s an old terraced property. For the panelling, rather than gluing it to the rough uneven ceiling, can it be fixed to the joists above somehow? The coving/cornicing would have to come off for any of those options I presume (I don’t like it anyway so not a big deal). Thanks

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Can most certainly be fixed to joists above but would need to be made even first with timber batons. I reckon its a 2 x day job ie. labour £500

The ceiling artex can be skimmed over with plaster. This would not affect the coving which can stay and the end result would be better than cladding. A plasterer is likely to charge around the £250 mark in my experience. Please note that I am not trying to set the price another trade or tradesman will charge.

You could fix battens on the existing cieling into the joists then put panelling or new boards and skim on that. You could strip the artex and get that skimmed again. Or you could knock the old cieling off and start again. The first option is probably the least time consuming and mess inducing. Asbestos must be considered in the artex too
