Painting & Decorating

Timescale for removing wallpaper and repainting two rooms

Anonymous user 05/03/2024 - 2.30 PM

I've recently bought a new flat and it has some horrible wallpaper in the biggest bedroom and the living room, so two relatively large rooms. I would like to remove it and paint it myself just so it feels fresher and cleaner when I move in (eventually I'll get a professional in to decorate properly but right now I just don't have the budget for it). I'm a COMPLETE beginner but have been reading a lot about what I should do. I'm planning on only doing the walls myself and not touching the ceilings or doors or anything. I'm just wondering how long I should expect this to take and whether or not I could actually manage to get it done in time. I've got a month and a half from getting the keys until I have to move in, so roughly about 4 weekends. Is there any chance I can actually do this?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Should be no problem in taking the paper off with a steamer. As long as the glue from the paper is removed to .If not I would suggest sanding the walls back rid of any glue residue and doing a test must coat to ensure that it takes well ! A mist coat and two full thick coats will do the trick !

Time wise you should have plenty of time if you aim to strip the walls the first weekend you then have 3 weekends to paint the walls just remember to rub the walls down with sandpaper before the first coat goes on if you have any other questions please feel free to ask me !

Should be plenty of time for two rooms, steamers are the easiest way to remove paper I love found and providing the walls are cleaned down and not damaged it shouldn’t talk long to paint. Just cut in along the ceilings and internal corners and roller the rest. You’ve got this, don’t over think it.
