Outdoor patio tiles - slab or pedestals

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.47 PM

I'm about to create a new patio outside my new sliding doors (8m x 3m) Currently there is decking supported on brick walls. There is about 30cm to the ground floor. The builder was trying to persuade me that it's sturdy and to tile on top of the decking (with some layers in between). Having wood in the mix outside feels wrong to me so I think the option is either the traditional concrete slab or using these plastic pedestals to "float" the tiles. They seem to have tall pedestals but 30cm+ is probably stretching it Does anyone have any experience with the pedestals good or bad? What would you do?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

No is the straight answer to your question, get rid of the decking which over years will rot you need a solid base for the porcelain tiles

A concrete floor is definitely recommended under outdoor tiling.

Yes I'm confirming the concrete base outdoors is recommended for porcelain tiles
