boiler fires up for water NOT for heating

hi,i have a normal (not combi) baxi boiler it is firing up and producing hot water but will not fire up or heat the radiators any ideas would be great ive just noticed when you hit the switch for the hot water to come on a light comes on with boiler written underneath then it fires up and all other lights light up in sequence and all good when you hit the heating switch NO boiler light comes on at all tried the hall stat it clicks bt dosent fire up when it should many thanks

Sounds like the divertor valve on the boiler needs replacing. Regards Gavin

So as you mentioned its not a combi , so there is no diverter valve in the boiler ,there will be a zone valve on the pipes somewhere near the cylinder, i suggest you look at these . some times they come as two port and sometimes as 3port , more likely problem is there Unless there is wrong wiring , or thermostat or programer faulty
