Fused Spur to socket?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 4.08 PM

I have a fused spur on its own circuit breaker (originally served a tubular heater) can this be changed to a plug socket - the circuit breaker is on an 30 mA RCD?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Yes, no problem, as long as its a 13A fused spur on 2.5mm2 T&E.

aslong as that circuit is protected by an rcd and has atmost 26a mcb but would be better off with a 16a mcb to be honest

Get a competant person to carry out necessary checks and change to a single socket. In theory it's exactly the same. Where before the changes the appliance was hardwired and protected by a fuse in the spur and after changes its protected by a fuse in the plug

The circuit breaker size should be 16amp if it’s a single radial circuit (one cable) , or 32amp if it’s wired in a ring (two cables). Two cables can sometimes be a radial circuit with a spur. It’s best to get it checked but it can be done quite easily. The cable size should be 2.5mm twin and earth.
