How to protect parapet wall from water damage

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.53 PM

Hello I’ve got a parapet wall at the top of my garage. It’s about 1 foot high and has coping stones on the top. The garage is leaking on the wall where the parapet is above. If I look at parapet it has various cracks in the smooth cement render. What is the best way to fix that? Could I use a roofing type paint or waterproof coating product? I don’t really want to hack the render off. Thanks in advance D

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi it’s very simple repair. You can either clean render and prepare for a top layer to be applied or you can cement fill the cracks . I would never recommend just painting a type of seal over without the preparation

Water ingress can be caused by numerous issues. Yes, cracks in the render, possibly the roof itself or any flashings and a more professional viewing should be the first thing to do rather than speculate. In any case the cracked and failed render cannot be just covered over and most tradespersons would refuse to do this type of quick fix you are asking about

Hack often re-render paint would only be a temporary solution
