Thick black dust in bathroom

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.53 PM

I am wondering if the thick black dust which appears in my bathroom every 48 hours is being caused by not having an extractor fan/cooker hood above the cooker? Could the cooking steam be rising to bathroom which is directly above kitchen and condensing into black dust? Condensing tumble dryer is also right beside the cooker...

The appearance of thick black dust in your bathroom every 48 hours is not a common occurrence and may be indicative of an underlying issue. Here are some possible reasons for this problem: Mold and Mildew: Black dust could be a form of mold or mildew growth. Mold and mildew thrive in damp and humid environments, which are often found in bathrooms. If your bathroom has poor ventilation, it can create conditions conducive to mold growth. Mold can appear black, and when it releases spores, it may seem like black dust. Dirt and Grime: Dust and dirt particles can accumulate in bathroom areas, especially if the bathroom isn't cleaned regularly. These particles can combine with moisture and soap scum to form a black, gritty residue. Ventilation Issues: Inadequate ventilation in the bathroom can lead to the accumulation of dust and moisture, which can combine to create a dirty residue. Ensure that your bathroom has proper ventilation through exhaust fans or windows to prevent this issue. Plumbing Issues: Sometimes, plumbing problems can result in dust or debris being released into the bathroom. This could occur if there is a leak or blockage in the plumbing system, causing particles to accumulate and then be released periodically. Construction or Renovation Dust: If there has been recent construction or renovation work in your home, it's possible that dust and debris from the work are making their way into the bathroom. To address this issue, consider the following steps: Regular Cleaning: Ensure that you clean your bathroom regularly, including wiping down surfaces and using appropriate cleaning products to remove dust and dirt. Improve Ventilation: If your bathroom lacks proper ventilation, consider installing an exhaust fan or keeping windows open to allow for better airflow and moisture removal. Check for Leaks: Inspect your plumbing for any leaks or blockages that might be contributing to the issue. If you find any problems, it's essential to address them promptly. Mold and Mildew Removal: If the black dust is due to mold or mildew, you'll need to clean and treat affected areas with mold/mildew remover. Monitor Renovation: If there's ongoing construction or renovation work in your home, make sure that the work area is properly sealed off to prevent dust and debris from spreading.

No your steam created in the kitchen downstairs would not appear as black soot upstairs. It would make your ceiling above the cooker an off colour but won't effect upstairs.
