How can I check if my Window was installed and sealed properly (With expanding foam or similar)?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.53 PM

I relocated to a newly constructed house last year. The bedroom features an aluminum-framed window with double glazing. I've been experiencing considerable noise or humming that seems to penetrate through the walls or the window. I'm now questioning whether the window was installed and sealed correctly. What would be the simplest method to verify this? Thank you in advance.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I would be looking More at how much compression you have when closing the sash to the frame ,apart from air leakage behind the frame which is rare ,as I’m sure even thought they might not be foamed ,they would be plastered or trimmed ,which would definitely alert me to the actual window ,especially the hinges that may not be doing there job properly ,or an oversize side hung sash with no interlock in the middle to pull sash gaskets tight .hope this helps

It’s extremely unlikely that the humming noise would be coming from around the perimeter of the frame as you’ve suggested is your belief. The plasterboard which covers the frame internally by around 25mm would stop perimeter noise transmission alone even if it wasn’t correctly sealed externally. It more likely to be coming from a trickle vent, drainage holes or a window that isn’t pulling in tightly in the seals when you close the handle. 35 years of glazing experience
