Uneven floor at living room after flooding

Anonymous user 17/03/2024 - 2.30 PM

There are multiple uneven places on my living room floor and it seems to be related to a drain leak event from the kitchen. I live in a ground floor flat, and my living room is laid with carpet. A few months ago there was flooding because of a drain leak where the water went from the kitchen to the living room. The drain leak lasted for several days and I constantly used a Carpet Cleaner to remove the water from the carpet. However, I didn't check what was under the carpet. Now I realise that there are multiple uneven places appearing on the floor and I suspected it may be related to the water from the drain leak (I haven't removed the carpet to check what happened inside). Is there anyone who knows the possible reasons? Is this kind of accident common? Do I need to do anything in this situation? Many thanks in advance!

You would really need to get the carpet rolled back to get the answer. It's common for some types of sub flooring to swell when wet and would possibly need replaced.

It is almost certainly a sub floor problem, the most likely is that there is a wood block floor which has expanded due the water, you have no option but to remove the carpet and resolve the sub floor problems

You need to take up the flooring asap and dispose of it The sub floor needs to properly dry out. If you don’t mould will develop and start to become a health risk.
