Joining wet room vinyl floor to tiled tanked walls
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.51 PM
We are in the process of completing a brand new bathroom with bath tub and wet room shower on the first floor of our Victorian house. The bathroom fitter has tanked out the wetroom corner and tiled all the way down to the floor. The floor is being done with a non-slip vinyl. When the vinyl fitter arrived he asked how bathroom fitter envisaged the tile / vinyl joint happening. Bathroom fitter has said the vinyl should be fitted tight and secured at the edge with silicon. The vinyl fitter is concerned that should be silicone fail, water will be able to get in under the vinyl and cause it to bubble. The bathroom fitter has said this will not be a problem as vinyl is not a floating product and will be secured with glue. The floor fitter has suggested bottom two rows of tiles around the shower are removed and a row of tile to vinyl trim is affixed to wall. Then one layer of tiles added above and vinyl welded below to create a water tight seal. The bathroom fitter has said tiles cannot be removed as this will destroy the tanking membrane. I am a writer and not a tradesperson and am at a loss. The bathroom fitter just thinks we are all idiots and has said so. I have no idea whose judgement to trust and how to get the room finished. We have spent a LOT of money on it so far and we are now left without a bath or a shower. There are some nice tiles and a unfitted roll of vinyl in the room though! Just need a solution.
