How is block paving job completed in regard to keeping the blocks secure?
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.53 PM
Last week had driveway and patio block paved. They put sand in the gaps between the block paving and have left it like this and finished the job, sand has already fallen through the step. Is this okay? concerned it is not right especially when it rains and gaps will be left. Should anything additional been done like pointing to secure the paving? or is it okay to leave it like this. Appreciate any advice.

Usually block paving is finished off with sand brushed into the gaps between the pavers. If there are still gaps between them I’d maybe ask the contractor to re sand it. I hope this helps.

Good evening, it’s not unusual for sand to work deeper into the brick spacings, especially in the first few weeks of the driveway being laid; nothing to worry about, as the block paving should have a raised profile on two sides which maintain the gaps and stop displacement.
However, ask for another round of sand and if they have the vibrating plate to work it into the gaps (using a rubber mat or carpet between plate and blocks) - you’ll be sure all gaps are filled then!
Be mindful though, through natural use, weather and cleaning, re sanding is a part of general maintenance to keep your block paving in top condition every year or so.
Take care.

Install edging kerbs around the boarders this will stop the blocks from sinking along the edges and the kiln dried sand from washing away
Hope this helps
