Cast iron bathtub peeling

Anonymous user 17/03/2024 - 2.30 PM

Hello, I have a built-in cast iron bathtub which from what I gather, might have an acrylic coating on top. The tub is old (pre when I bought in 2012) and has recently started to have significant peeling of the acrylic(?) which lines it. What are my options? Can the remaining (80%) acrylic be blasted off and re-coated? It's a kind of dull, white/grey underneath the white coating. Or would it be better to just have it taken out and a new one put in. In honesty, I'd rather keep the current tub, not because it's particularly good but seems a waste to have it dumped and a plastic one put in if it can be brought back to a new(ish) standard. I don't really want to DIY as I've read it'll be a lot of effort and probably not yield good results. Any help would be much appreciated!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I’d say personally you’d be better off getting a new one with the iron being exposed it may start rusting without a protective layer on it

If the bath is worth keeping, than I think fine cosmetic repairs should do the job..
