Kitchen Fitting

Pantry tall decor panels

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.51 PM

I am installing my kitchen which has various decor panels aswell as 2 end panels(either end of an L shaped kitchen). All the smaller decor oanels inbetween units go down to cupboard level and not floor but it states to fit the tall pantry ones to the floor. My view is to fit these to cupboard bottom and not floor so no break in the plinth or dead corner and would look nicer I think etc but conscious of the weight as they would only be held in place by screws going in about 1.5cm’s. I was thinking of installing metal brackets in places like on the top, back and underneath where they are hidden and wondered if this would be sufficient.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

First things first, I would always fit all base and tower panels to the floor as this gives a much neater finish than returning the plinth around a corner. If you prefer the option of fixing to the cabinet only, then the correct screws will be more than adequate to hold it securely. Assuming an 18mm carcase and an 18mm plant-on panel, then 30mm self-countersinking screws are the industry standard. I would use 6 - 8 screws; the front ones drilled behind the hinges and the back ones in line. No further brackets or fixings will be needed. My fear however is if you are struggling at this point, you may find the overall project to be above your skill set as the setting out of corners and the cutting and mitring of worktops is a lot more challenging than how to secure a clad-on panel . . . You may find that a good fitter at around £200 a day will save you a lot of sleepless nights.

I like to see tall end panels to the floor, but intemperate panels are cut back just past the plinth line to leave a continuous plinth
