Damp proof underlay over wooden planks subfloor?

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.51 PM

Thinking to lay laminated floor on the ground level room which has plank wooden floor with large space under for ventilation. Any advise please on what sort of underlay would be better? After checking the humidity level in this subfloor I have an average of aprox 17%. I was thinking of 5mm fibreboard underlay as it's firm but also considering some Royal sonic gold of 5mm with damp proof membrane although I'm a bit afraid beinf from foam will be a bit bouncy. The dilemma is if I use underlay with DMP would have any bad effects on subfloor? Thank you in advance for any any advice you can offer.

If its just a standard suspended floor on joist's then no need for DPM , you can always check the void beneath for dryness , if its wet i wouldn't use any sheeting that prevents ventilation its a possibility that you'll cause dry rot in the timbers. If all dry just use a standard underlay like Timber tech

Use one or the other. If going to use fibre boards then stick down a thick polythene membrane, this will act as a DPM when using fibre boards but would not use fibre boards and a foam underlay as will cause too much bounce within the laminate floor and therefore your floor will fail.
