New fence and original concrete posts
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.51 PM
Can you replace and existing wire fence with erected concrete posts and put up a new wooden slatted fence and use new wooden posts but leave the old concrete posts in for extra support?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, Short concrete posts and wire fence may be left behind panels for extra support, but some might not be adjacent to your new wooden posts to be attached, thus a couple of diagonal timber support between concrete posts could be used as support, too. Good Luck.

Yes, it's often possible to replace an existing wire fence with a new wooden slatted fence using new wooden posts while leaving the old concrete posts in place for extra support. This can be a cost-effective solution to enhance the aesthetics and functionality of your fence while utilizing the existing infrastructure)
Good Luck

The best thing to do would be strip the previous fencing leaving the concrete posts, if there isn’t already drill holes through the concrete post and fix either 75mm or 100mm wooden posts using coach bolts.
Obviously make sure the post are level, then fix motorway rails across the wooden posts using 100mm screws. Usually on a 6ft high fence you would need about 3-4 backing rails.
Once the rails are attached, use feather edge boards to nail to the rails overlapping each board about 25mm and make sure they are plumb about every 6ft.
Iv had over 15 years in the sheds and fencing industry and in my opinion this would be the easiest way giving you a seamless look. This is called close board fencing.
Hope this helps

It is fine to re-use concrete posts provided they are in a good state of repair and all permissions between parties (neighbours and customer) have been agreed. I pack them with 4x2 treated timber. If the fencer is good they can do this to add extra height or ‘straighten’ posts (or give the appearance of straightening).
It isn’t always possible, but if posts are sound, the fence is staying the same it is certainly a faster and cheaper option.
