Serious condensation issue in the loft (with water cistern)
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.51 PM
Hi there, Thanks for opening this, and just wanted to get some advice on how to approach some condensation issue in the loft. Early December last year, we had a pretty serious condensation issue where the whole roof was dripping and the floor was pretty wet. I vaguely remember the humidity level was > 100%, which is crazy. Pictures below show how bad it was. If you were to look at the first picture, there is a water cistern and the fibreglass below was significantly damp that the water went through to the plasterboard making the ceiling paint on the other side cracks. https://ibb.co/8s4BBgF https://ibb.co/pyg03Dz https://ibb.co/9hLqk6P To remedy this temporarily, I deployed some metal and plastic pieces in between the black membranes of the roof to create air flows (see pictures below), and it solved the problem pretty well at the time. https://ibb.co/6mwq9RC https://ibb.co/60VtShy However, I am still concerned that if the dripping happens again when the airflow isn’t strong in the winter, particularly the area below the cistern as I would imagine hot and cold air is far more than the rest of the loft. I feel like either we proactively create some kind of strong ventilation system to suck the hot air out of the loft effectively, or relatively reactively have some kind of remedy approach to get the dripping water out from below the cistern. Ideas are always welcome. Thank you for your time. Best regards, Taihai PS: Note that my current thinking is that the pipes in the loft are still OK as I haven’t found any water leakage during this summer, which is good.
