Neighbour's Toilet Audible In My House
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.35 PM
I live in a semi detached 1960's bungalow. I rarely hear anything other of my adjoining neighbour but I can hear quite disturbingly loud and clear, him having a tinkle and then flushing the chain. The bathrooms are on the outer side walls of our bungalows, it's a mirror image layout so bathrooms are not adjoining each other in the middle. Wherever I am in my house I can hear him on the toilet, and then the rush of water from the flushing resonates all around my house. Why might this be? A shared drain perhaps? Is this common in 1960s bungalow builds? Thanks!

This could be a multitude of things, most likely a combination between no insulation between the wall and the wall being very thin.

During the construction not enough emphasis was placed on sound insulation in the party wall. This could have been done by use of a cavity wall.
