Rain water pooling on newly tarmac driveway

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.35 PM

Hello I had my tarmac drive finished yesterday. The rain water is pooling heavily on the tarmac. The company responsible say to be patient as the tarmac is new. I feel that the level is not correct as rain water should run off the driveway. I would be grateful for your thoughts please. Thank you Janice

Hi, if the rainwater is pooling in one area it must mean that area is lower than the rest, meaning the company who laid it haven’t laid it correctly and should be brought back to rectify their work.

I agree with the answer above- the job is incomplete, it may need a quick skim, you are correct, the driveway should should have an adequate angle for run off. Insist they come back and rectify.

Water should run off it should not be holding water at all. I’d be worried if they got this simple thing wrong what spec the driveway was done to!!

Fresh tarmac has a lot of oil present and it it’s quite normal for tarmac to hold water when new. However it can also be a sign that there is a hollow or dip in tarmac in which case depending on deflection may need remedy or that the tarmac isn’t laid to falls correctly. Fresh tarmac can be heated and isolated areas and re compacted. Which is always better than re patching.
