Kitchen Fitting

Fitting an integrated hob where front of worktop has been cut to remove old hob

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.35 PM

Granite work top has been cut at front (and glued temporarily back on) for an old hob to be removed. The remaining 3 sides are sound. Can new integrated be slotted in and installed, then either the old front cut off re glued in place or a new piece slotted in? Or will a whole new work surface need to be installed with a fresh cut out?

Good afternoon, generally no, you can use old one if the worktop in the good condition. Thanks.

Hiya This is very good question. Building regulation for kitchen installation do not give guidelines on the decision to use the the existing worktop with its imperfections or to have it replaced. However if the kitchen is for commercial use the Food Standard Agency may take a different view because worktop areas must be free from crevasses that may allow bacteria to develop if difficult to clean. In the end it is advised not to glue/adhesive back on the worktop front but fit a new worktop. However much depends on the client's budget on one hand and the finishing that can be delivered to minimise the building up of bacteria on the other.

Personally, I have never heard of a worktop being cut to remove a hob. However, as it's granite, if a new piece can be glued in and polished properly to hide the joins, it may work
