Exhaust Fan in Lintel in Single Story Extension

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.46 PM

Hello, I'm having trouble finding a place to install a vent for our cookerhood. It's a 1910s house with a 1960s single story flatroof extension. Is it possible to drill through a door lintel if it's a single story with a flatroof (what is the lintel actually supporting)? This way we could drill through the original supporting wall behind the cooker and run the ducting along the otherside of that wall and vent above the door in the extension. Our boiler is in the way of the most direct approach. Thanks for the help!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Do not ever drill through any kind of lintel or anything in any supporting structure or material you would be much better off installing an extractor or vent through the actual flat roof itself and finishing it off with a witches hat where it protrudes from the roof it could also be done at very small expense by constructing a small bulk head above your cooker using some plastic rectangular ducting to steer it away from the lintel

I'd go up and out through the next floor.
