Damp Proofing

Is a damp proof membrane any good?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.46 PM

Hi, I am helping my daughter renovate her house, so am working to a tight budget. The floor has been leveled and screeded. The builders suggested damp proofing the new floor with a paint on product, I would rather use a membrane as it's quicker & cleaner - will this give us as good a result?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Unfortunately from my experience your damp proof would normally be put in before the screed etc so I think the paint on product is now your best option if you wanted membrane should of been fitted before screed etc

If the floor is already laid then a liquid DPM is the quickest and easiest option.

Paint on damp products can still show signs of damp some times in different prospectives I would definitely go with the membrane as it is a lot better .

A damp proof membrane (DPM) is an effective method for preventing moisture-related issues in floors. While it is typically installed beneath the screed during construction, retrofitting a DPM membrane can be more challenging and costly. However, if you prioritize long-term protection and are willing to invest the additional time and expense, a DPM membrane can provide a more reliable solution compared to a paint-on product.
