Accenta Alarm, keypad sounds gone

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.46 PM

A couple of weeks ago I noticed the sounds on my Accenta alarm keypad started getting weak, as if a wire to the sounder was loose or a battery (if that's a thing) was running out. Now it seems to have completely gone and I hear no sounds from the keypad to indicate the alarm is set or active, I just have to use the lights on the panel. It was installed when the house was built about 8 years ago. The keypad lights are all working and the main power light is active at all times. Any ideas what's up? Something I can look at myself without triggering the alarm? PIC: https://imgur.com/a/W9c7GRy

Everything is tampered you you open anything it will trigger a tamper alarm could just be the age of the system I tend to rip them out when I can

ADE Accenta systems were good in their day, I’ve worked on many and still maintain a few of these systems as-well. To me it sounds like the internal keypad sounder has become faulty, not to say the whole unit / system is, but just a component. Unfortunately the Accenta systems are obsolete so when the time comes I do suggest when a Networked device e.g the keypad, panel and extpansion units begin to fail I recommend replacing the system with a modern hybrid system. This utilises your existing detectors but changing the control panel and keypad. The hybrid element is…. I fit a wireless expander next to the panel to future proof your property, so if you want extra detectors then you can or maybe in a few years the existing cabling or devices begin the deteriorate then you can replace with wireless.

Could be a loose connection on the keypad speaker terminal. If you open the keypad, (tamper will activate, enter passcode) You are looking for two wires from the speaker. See if they are loose. Failing that, you may need a replacement keypad.

Turn on chimes on the front door contact or your hall PIR, open the front door or walk about in the hall if you don't hear a chimes in the keypad then its faulty. You maybe to buy the same keypad on ebay. Ps I have a working in stock used one if you're interested. info@microtecsystems.co.uk Strathan Microtec

I've installed these systems for 20 years and, in my experience, they are pretty resilient! I still see some systems that function like new that are over 20 years old! This issue could be related to several causes: 1- the "sound" wire has come loose or is damaged ( this may require replacing the cable) 2- the piezo buzzer inside the keypad has failed ( this requires a replacement keypad) 3- the panel output that supplies sound to the keypad has failed ( this requires a panel replacement) In any event, you'll trigger the alarm system if you start opening up the components (providing it was installed correctly). My recommendation would be to get someone who is familiar with this system to see if its salvageable before committing to replace the whole system.
