EXTERNAL RISING DAMP - RAISED DRIVEWAY - GROUND LEVEL AIRBRICK

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.46 PM

Hello, Any responses will be highly appreciated. I’m at my wits end with figuring out the best cost effective solution to this issue. We’ve recently bought a house with this situation outside - the airbrick is located very very low. The driveway is considerably higher. In order to avoid blocking it, a trench has been dug but this now collects water and has severe rain splash back and means the internal walls around the bay window are suffering from rising damp too!!! No option to add pictures but can send separately too.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

The situation you described with the low-located airbrick and the trench causing water collection and rising damp is indeed challenging. To find the best cost-effective solution, it is recommended to consult with a professional in the field, such as a building surveyor or a damp specialist. They will be able to assess the specific circumstances of your property and provide expert advice tailored to your situation. Potential remedies may include redirecting water away from the trench, improving drainage, installing additional damp-proofing measures, or adjusting the airbrick location. By seeking professional guidance, you can ensure that the chosen solution effectively addresses the issue while also considering the most cost-effective approach in the long run.

You would need a good drainage system put into place, an aco system would be the best for this to allow water flow away from the property.
