How to fit back boxes and conduit?
Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 3.02 PM
Do back boxes and conduit need a bonding agent behind them when installing into an old stone wall or is the back box screws and some clips good enough? What clips would you use or bonding agent?

You can fix back boxes to old stone walls however if your wall isn’t great for fixings CT1 is always a reliable adhesive. As long as your capping for the cables is nice and flush on the wall that should keep your plasterer happy.

If you are using surface mounted pvc or metal conduit and surface mounted sockets you would need to drill and use wall plugs and screws. With conduit you would use saddles to fix the conduit to the walls. If it is pvc conduit you can get a clip type saddle where you push the conduit in. If the fixings aren’t great you could try grab Adhesives as well as screwing it. Metal conduit would require specialised equipment a pipe bender and stocks and dyes to put threads on to cut pieces of conduit, as all the parts screw together end boxes, angle boxes couplers etc. Pvc conduit pushes into the various end boxes, angle boxes couplers etc. You need a glue to stick the plastic conduit together always ensuring to leave some of the ends unglued to allow any expansion.
