Help re new failed fibreglass roof on shed

Anonymous user 28 February 2024 - 4.07 PM

Just moved house, inherited large shed with leaking felt roof (DIY job by previous owner) only 3 years old roof is a single ptch surface, but not steep (sorry don't know the terms). Called lots of roofers, only two actually turned up. One quote was over £2k, other less than half. Went with that one - local firm, some good reviews etc. Yes I know you get what you pay for, but whole shed is not worth £2k! Anyhow after he left, giving a written 10 year guarantee, it rained, and next day it was leaking 10 times more than before, with a big puddle on the roof. He's not responding now after I emailed photos. Not paid, and not sure I'd trust him to come back. What are the options for fixing this now? It looks to me like the edging put on to replace the boards has caused a slight raised edge at the back, the lowest point where rain should drain off. Assume the fibreglass cannot be removed. Will try to get someone else out but wondering what can be done?

It could possibly get worse if left. I would suggest using somebody with fibre glass background. The longer it’s left the worse the leak will get and more damage will be caused. Message me if you need a quote

I'm sorry to hear about the issues you're facing with your shed roof. It seems that the previous roofer's work has not resolved the leak and that they are not responding to your attempts to contact them. In this situation, you have a few options: 1. Contact the roofer again: Try reaching out to the roofer once more, making it clear that the issue persists and requesting that they come back to rectify the problem. If they provided a written guarantee, they should honor it and address the leak. 2. Seek a second opinion: If the roofer is unresponsive or unwilling to fix the issue, consider contacting another roofing professional for a second opinion. Explain the situation and provide them with the photos you took. They may be able to identify the cause of the leak and provide recommendations for repair. 3. DIY repair: If you're comfortable with DIY projects and have some roofing knowledge, you could attempt to fix the leak yourself. However, keep in mind that this may void any warranty or guarantee that the original roofer provided. Be cautious and thoroughly research the necessary steps and materials before proceeding. 4. Hire a different roofer: If all else fails, you may need to hire a different roofing professional to address the leak. Choose a reputable and experienced roofer who can inspect the shed roof, identify the underlying issue, and provide an appropriate solution. They will be able to assess whether the fiberglass can be removed or if it needs to be worked around to fix the problem. Remember to document all communication with the original roofer, including emails and photos, for future reference. It's important to address the issue promptly to prevent further damage to your shed.
