Bathroom handle

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.53 PM

Hi there. My bathroom door handle fell off and was put back with the wrong sized screws (unbeknown to me) so has constantly fallen off and put back to the point the wood where the screws were is now completely chipped with a gaping hole which doesn’t allow for a screw. I don’t know whether I should be filling it and then starting again with a new handle? Thank you

Hi there, you can use a screw and cup system that will trap the handle on to the door so it will not fall off again, no need for filling or sanding.

You can get screws for door handles that go through and pull the handles together as opposed to screwing to the door. Id suggest trying them. Theyre called through bolts

The hole could be reinforced and filled with a decent wood filler however this could require several layers of filler, sanding and painting. If you are paying someone based on time it might work out cheaper just to fit a new door (which may also need painting). However if the door has some sort of character and is matching to the others it might be worth preserving and restoring. Post the job and someone will Come to the rescue. Good luck 👍🏽

I know it sounds mad but it's a technic I use all the time, I use raw plugs and holds solid

Depending on the type of door it’s possible to repair but my advice is buy a new door and hang it
