Toilet backwash
Anonymous user 17/03/2024 - 2.30 PM
Hi all, For the last 3 years my toilet constantly has what appears to be urine in it, no matter how many times I flush it goes away and comes back within a few minutes. It only happens with urine and nothing else. The house is a new build, approx 3 years old. It has 2 other toilets and those are not affected at all. Any ideas what’s causing it and how to fix before I have to start taking things apart? Cheers

may not fully clear out waste and residue. Adjusting the flush power or replacing a faulty flush mechanism might solve the problem.
Blockage in the Drain or Vent: A partial blockage in the drain line or venting system can cause urine or other waste to flow back into the bowl. Check for blockages and consider using a plunger or a drain snake to clear them. If the problem persists, it might be worth getting a plumber to check for more serious issues in the drain line or venting system.
Toilet Design or Installation: If the toilet is designed or installed such that the trap in the toilet bowl is not keeping the water barrier, it can cause issues. The water barrier is supposed to block sewer gas (and potentially seeping waste) from coming back up. If there's a fault in this part of the toilet's design or installation, you might need to consult a plumber to rectify it.
Sediment in the Water Supply: It could be that there is a high level of sediment in the water supply to this toilet, and that sediment is discolored in a way that looks like urine. If this is the case, installing a filter on the water supply to the toilet could solve the problem.
Mineral Deposits: Over time, minerals from hard water can deposit on the inner surfaces of the toilet bowl and create a yellowish appearance that can look like urine. Regular cleaning with a product designed to remove mineral deposits can help in this situation.
It's difficult to say for sure which of these might be causing the problem in your case, and it may be that a combination of issues is at play. If you're not comfortable investigating these possibilities yourself, I would recommend hiring a plumber. They have the expertise and tools to diagnose and fix such problems more accurately.

Hi, could be soil pipe running the wrong way, or is one of other wc's linked to it. Trevor

Hard to point out fault without attending. Possibly back flow from main line or blockage further down the line, Which is backing up.
