Can a job extractor fan and a combo boiler be connected to same fuse spur?

Hi guys, I’m about to get connected the cable to my job extractor fan to the fuse spur connected to my new combo boiler but will this be a problem for the boiler? Please advise! Thanks, S

Ideally everything should be able to be isolated seperately. If you needed to isolate either appliance, then both would be isolated at the same time, so a fault with your extractor could mean you have to do without a boiler too. Would be best to install another fused switched spur at the side of the boiler one, fed from the supply side of the boiler spur that is dedicated to the extractor. Electrically, they shouldn't interfere with each other by sharing a spur, but not good practice.

Check with the gas safe plumber if a fan is allowed near a boiler. You don't want exhaust fumes from the boiler being dragged back in to the room. I think there are rules around this. Agree with the first post, though, it is safe to put both appliances on one spur but not technically correct because each ought to be separate for isolation purposes if practical to do so.

In the United Kingdom, electrical installations must adhere to specific regulations outlined in the BS 7671 (Requirements for Electrical Installations), also known as the Wiring Regulations. It is essential to comply with these regulations to ensure safety and legal compliance. Therefore, when considering connecting a job extractor fan and a combo boiler to the same fuse spur in the UK, it is crucial to follow the guidelines outlined by a qualified electrician who is familiar with UK regulations. Here are some general considerations based on UK regulations: Load Calculation: The total load of the job extractor fan and combo boiler must not exceed the maximum rating of the fuse spur or circuit. Your electrician will perform load calculations based on the power requirements of both appliances to determine if they can be safely connected to the same circuit. Cable Size: The cable used for the installation should be of the appropriate size to handle the combined load of the job extractor fan and the combo boiler. The electrician will determine the suitable cable size based on the load calculations and the regulations specified in BS 7671. Electrical Protection: Adequate electrical protection should be provided to ensure the safety of the installation. This may include the use of appropriate fuses, circuit breakers, or residual current devices (RCDs) to protect against overcurrent and electric shock. Earthing: Proper earthing arrangements should be implemented as per the regulations. This ensures that any fault in the electrical system can be safely diverted to the ground, minimizing the risk of electric shock. Certification and Testing: Upon completion of the electrical installation, it is important to obtain the necessary certification, such as an Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC) or Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate (MEIWC). This verifies that the installation has been carried out in accordance with the regulations.
