Hi recently my socket what I use for my oven has had a fishy smell coming from it I thought it was cooker but it’s not I have taken the oven plug out and not using it till I can get a electrician to come out to look at it. Probably be Monday now. Will it be safe if it’s not plugged in to oven as I’m really worried that it will set on fire. Thank you

When burning cable smells from sockets means there is short circuit so two conductor touching each other as long as electricity flows its burning continues so the best is off the mcb from consumer unit from specific circuit until is properly fixed.

The most common cause of a fishy smell is burning bakelite, this can happen when an accessory is overheating due to the large load or loose connection. The socket outlet will require replacing. If you have unplugged the appliance the socket will be safe until you get it replaced. Do not use the socket until it has been replaced. Also the plug top on the oven may need replacing.

If you know how to safely isolate the circuit, then this should be done. Otherwise best thing to would be call out an electrician.
The burning smell will be due to a loose connection within the accessory, which whilst energised/under load will be causing it to arc, which creates heat. The fishy smell will be burnt plastic.
