Can I block up a gas fire with cardboard?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.46 PM

My gas fire is set into the wall of the living room and I have a toddler. I have placed a large piece of cardboard in front of the fire to stop him touching it, but is this safe? Note the fire isn't on with the cardboard in front of it. I'm just doing it during the day while hes playing in the room. My concern was if it stopped ventilation if that was a safety hazard? The gas is still connected as we use the fire in the evenings (after baby's bedtime). As the fire is in the wall the traditional gate thing doesn't really work.

Answer edited to reply to the newly edited question. Get a proper guard to protect the fireplace, a removable cardboard barrier is not good enough
