I need to fill the cavity up to the DPC level to avoid rats

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.46 PM

I have rat problem in the cavity wall. They are coming from the bottom of the cavity wall, I need to remove few blocks on the external wall and thinking of filling either concrete or screed in the cavity wall up to the DPC or just below so we can block all the holes and avoid any rats from coming into the cavity. Is this possible please? and is there any other better solution please?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Yes, this will be okay using either semi-dry concrete or screed but make sure it does not come up any higher than DPC

When doing any foundation works you should not fill the lean concrete mix anymore than 150mm from DPC. If you have rat infestation look at a proven track record company to remove them from source as you will only move the problem maybe to a different part of the house garden etc filling the cavity with other wool materials will only contribute to breeding. Hope this helps
