Lime Mortar or Cement?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 4.07 PM

It looks like this property has been repointed recently but can anyone identify if it has been done with lime mortar or cement from the photo? https://i.ibb.co/z7Z7BZR/high-high.jpg

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

From the photos provided it is not possible to give a definitive answer. Lime mortar tends to be lighter yellow in colour. the light red/pink colour would suggest in my opinion a readymix mortar repair but this colour would also be possible with any reddish coloured sand. Testing would have to be undertaken to confirmed the exact makeup of the mortar used. Hope this helps and drop me a message anytime

To get the correct answer I'd give masons mortor a call get them to take a sample and analyse it at the lab it should give you definite break down off the mix and what's required to put it right hopefully it helps

That looks like a 4:1 sand & cement mix, you can always get it tested to find out what it contains.
