Loft to be used for storage. 2200mm span between middle joists
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 4.07 PM
There is a 2200mm span between the roof trusses in the middle of the space, where the loft access door is. The overall length (90 degrees to the roof trusses) is 6-7m long with a 2.2m central gap that Im looking to span over. The spacing of the trusses either side of the 2.2m gap is at 600mm centers What size timbers should I need to use to reach over the span? This would only be for general storage, and also hold a persons weight. Thanks

Hi Josh,
Most common type of joist use for flooring is 150mm x 47mm.
You cannot go wrong with this size, the details you have provided aren't totally clear but hope this helps.

John

Hi is it 2200mm overall or from the centre to either side ? I would recommend a 145mm x 45mmC16 joist levelled and nailed to your existing joists
