Bricklaying & Repointing

timber cladding replacement with brickwork

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 4.07 PM

planning to replace existing timber cladding from first floor of end of terrace house, with standard brickwork. ground floor has partial brick wall already, single skin, which will be extended upwards to replace timber cladding. ground floor = 210 cm plus first floor 270 cm. Existing ground floor has foundation going below 60 cm as seen by digging inspection hole (trial hole). This wall is not load bearing as house is timber frame. Simple question is whether the existing concrete foundation, deep 60 cm plus is good enough to support extra brick wall (270 cm high)? thanks

Ideally the foundation should be a minimum of a meter in depth on solid ground with a minimum of 30 cm of concrete deep and 25 cm wide to facilitate the brickwork that you are planning to build with plenty of ties fixed to the existing timber structure

Hi would recommend reinforcement on the footing if not changing the whole thing

The width of the foundation should be plus 200mm more then the build structure minimum Giving you 100mm each side of the internal and external wall
