Fitting A Kitchen After Plastering

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.53 PM

Hello, So, The Kitchen was replastered and completed, yesterday, The New Kitchen is now being fitted, today! We have asked The Workmen if the cabinets will be okay as the plaster is still damp in some areas and they have said that they are only drilling onto dry parts of the plaster, however, I am concerned that the units will get damp and may warp as the doors are solid timber. Can anyone offer any advice? Is this normal practice, or, should they have waited?

I have been able to fit a kitchen 48 hours after plastering when it was 30+ degrees on both days but even this is on the lower limit of waiting time. I'd advise you to wait 3-5 days in the summer and probably 6+ days in colder weather. Next day is bad practice. The plaster may appear dry on the surface but there is still moisture trying to get out. If you place a kitchen cabinet on top, the moisture has nowhere to go. If you lift up one of the cabinets tomorrow, you may find that the plaster is a different colour behind the cabinet. Mind you, it has been extremely hot recently and there might not be a noticeable difference. Next day is still risky though. Hi, you must wait until completely dry. Day or two, to avoid further problems with black mould

A kitchen should never be fitted in a damp room wether it’s rising damp penetrating damp or fresh damp plaster. It will just trap the damp . Al ways fit kitchen in dry areas until damp has completely disappeared/ dry. Room should be decorated / white wash prior to kitchen installation with first fix electrics and plumbing in place 👍🏻
