Engineered Wood Flooring over flooring and UFH
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.52 PM
Hi all, we want to put Quickstep engineered wood flooring down to modernize our house. We have a water based underfloor heating system. Above this we currently have small strip wood parquet (glued down?) and tiles in other rooms. We were told to just glue the engineered wood over the existing flooring rather than take it up. Does this make sense to you?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Ok,the problem which could arise 9nce uplifted are 1 you damage the 0ipes taking up depending on depth under screed/concrete
Once taken up,the floor is uneven from adhesive and grout so would need screening again

Definitely not the correct approach! You would need to uplift the existing flooring, then ensure the subfloor is sound, flat & stable. You could then install your new QS engineered flooring.
I would strongly recommend employing a flooring professional for the project to ensure no issues along the way & for the best end results ...

100% uplift the existing floor with care, carry out the preparation needed for your new flooring (1200 latex over subfloor). Laying over your existing floor will not only reduce performance of your underfloor heating but may cause issues in future with it being sandwiched between underfloor heating and a new floor, especially if it’s going to be fully bonded. Not to mention the discrepancies in floor level. Highly recommend getting a flooring specialist to take care of this.
