Roof vent for summer time loft heat escape.

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.50 PM

Our 1960s house has no venting in roof. During summer time (especially heat wave days), temp in loft can reach up to 60 degree C. I was wondering if there's any specific roof vent that can be installed which will require minimal intervention and also, can be closed/shut down during winter time. Thanks in advance for your suggestion/feedback.

The roof space should be vented at all times, good ventilation keeps the roof healthy, in the colder months will prevent Condensation build up from modern heating systems you can easily install Soffits vents and inline tile vents to ensure Continuous airflow.

You could always take the roof vent back out and replace with a tile to block it off in the winter. Then swap again in the summer. Or insulate from the inside in the winter.

To my knowledge there isn't a tile vent that opens/closes as airflow through the loft space is imperative as in hot weather it can sweat without ventilation and in the winter it can cause condensation which could lead to rafters rotting over time..Tile vents or Dry ridge system will normally give adequate airflow.

Tile vents and breathable membrane with give good airflow but in colder weathers not release too much heat, do you know what the current roof felt is like?
