Right way of Tilling in hot weather

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.50 PM

I hired someone for tilling and thought he has done a good job bit another person who have experience in tilling had a look and thought the grout has sunk a bit and lips of the tiles are sharp . He asked me to walk Barr foot on the new tile floor . When I walked bare footed oh the new tiles floor I could feel a bit of sharp edges near the corners of the tiles . If someone can help me to know how the new tiles floor should look and feel . How the lay person like me would know that the tilling job is done to a good standard .

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I Think the Tiler mixed the grout using too much water making it too sloppy that's why it has slumped , he should have made it Thicker.

The tiles were not laid at the same level. The grout is not important in this case. The tiles have no sharp edges, all you felt was the level difference between the tiles

It could just be that the tiles are uneven, this is called ‘lippage’. The heat has no bearing on it, other than your adhesive goes off a bit quicker, as does the grout. He could also have used too much water and spread too sloppy a mix, if it slumped, it would’ve been apparent quite quickly and could’ve been made better by a second grouting. He/ she could also have sponged the grout when it wasn’t dry enough, again, with too much water. The fact that you can feel sharp edges implies lippage, but the grout could still be slumped as well.

The reason your tiling job isn't done to your satisfactory has nothing to do with the weather unfortunately. 1. The reason you can fell lippage is that the tiler should have used a levelling wedge system, which can eliminate lippage if used properly in the correct situations. 2. Two of the main reasons we find grout sinks is if it is mixed up too wet or if the grout hasn't been left long enough in the joint before it is wiped off. The grout should be almost dry before you wipe it off to leave the best finish. I hope this helps
