Placing a masonry bbq on uneven patio

Anonymous user 10/03/2024 - 2.30 PM

I have recently bought a 500kg masonry bbq, which has dimensions of 110cm x 70cm x 205cm. When I went to let the base in my sandstone patio it rocked. There is a gap of about 50mm at the highest point What are my options to put something on the patio to level it?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hey Paul, Do you really mean 50mm? That's quite an amount to level up? Normally, accounting for flow and rivens in a natural stone patio, I wouldn't expect more than 5mm discrepancy? You can temporarily try some tantalise batten or a few off-cuts of sandstone? However, if it is a typo and only 5mm; search for plastic or hardwood shims. All the best Dan

At Aaron Small Building Works we were asked to level up a pizza oven. It wasn’t 50mm but we cut down a concrete block to be cemented and levelled. It worked. Adrian Lowry Aaron Small Building Works

Depends on how you want it to look. Either a piece of tantalised wood of the right thickness or get some flags to match existing patio and lay them on a mortar bed to the required height, in the correct position
