Kitchen Fitting

Side Panels don't reach floor

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.34 PM

I have recently had a (rather shoddy) installation of a Howdens kitchen. The fitter has not attached the side panels flush with the floor. They are floating half a centimetre above. He said this is industry standard so they don't get damaged by mopping. Is this true?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

This is not true, they have either cut them to short or the base cabinet height have been set to high.

Not true the legs should be set lower on the base units, or they have cut the panel too short, also there should be a neat silicone bead to protect the panel from blowing when mopping, also the plinths should have clear capping on the bottom to protect them.

End panels should touch the floor always with a bead of silicone to protect the panel

Side panels should be scribed to the floor with a neat bead of silicon. Which will prevent water from saturating the end panel.

End panels should touch the floor and be scribed if required for a neat finish. They should also have a bead of silicone to stop water ingress from damaging them.
