Isolation switch for electric oven

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.34 PM

Hey, we are having x 2 electric ovens installed in two separate kitchen spaces. Currently wiring for isolation switches has not been allowed for in the plastering/tiling. Is it a legal requirement in the UK to have one installed next to the electrical oven? Thanks

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

It's a requirement by BS7671 wiring regs. Can't give you the exact regulation off the top of my head but it's under isolation & switching. You will need to have an isolation switch for each oven, to achieve local isolation.

Yes isolation switches are required for Cooker units, unless the cooker is under 2Kw and this can be incorporated in the ring. However the mention of 2 cookers in the same installation I would recommend having both cookers with separate circuits and it’s own isolation switch. Hope this helps. Thanks.

I can see no reason why you couldn't share the isolation through just one switch. I often use a dual outlet plate on one standard 32A circuit. Applying load diversity you would be fine. There is no need for two separate circuits. Edit: To save damaging new plaster or tiles it can go in an adjacent cabinet or above the oven if it's in a tall unit.

you need a local means of isolation for each oven. We would position them within a local cupboard space.
